It is widely aggreed that malnutrition and hunger are the single biggest crisis facing the world today. They are a bigger threat to global health than AIDS, Malaria and tuberculosos combined. In 2009 it was estimated that just over 1 billion peaople worldwide go hungry every day. This means that 1 in 6 people worldwide went without food today. It is further estimated that iron deficiency effects 2 billion people worldwide. In developing countries 10.9 million children under ther age of five die every year. 60% of these deaths are caused by malnutrition and hunger related diseases. |

Thankfully malnutrition and hunger are easy treatable. In the short term Vitanin A and zinc suppliments can provide the important nutriants that we all require and help to stave off malnutrition. Iron and Iodine are also very important for healthy growth, especially within the brain, and suppliments can be given to aid development. More long term solutions include increased access to clean water supplies and health education. However the most effective way to treat and even irradicate malnutrition is to increase a communities access to good food and a healthy enviroment. To truly cure malnutrition a person must have regular access to healthy food and the nutrition they require to grow both physically and mentally. By developing agriculture and industry within a region we can help to ensure that a community permenantly has access to a healthy lifestyle. |
